Arthritis Aquatics

What is the Arthritis Aquatic Program?  The Arthritis Aquatic Program is a recreational program held in the Fitness One heated pool three times a week.  Trained instructors lead the participants through a series of specially designed exercises, that with the aid of the waters buoyancy and resistance, can help improve joint flexibility.  The warm water and gentle movements can also help to relieve the pain and stiffness associated with arthritis. 

Who can participate?  Any person with arthritis or arthritis like symptoms can participate.  It is not necessary to know how to swim.  This is a physician referred program - Pick up a form at Fitness One or ask your doctor for a form.

Where are the classes?  Classes are held at Fitness One, located in front of the Northport Medical Center, in the Sports & Medicine Complex.  For more detailed directions, please call (205) 333-4700. When are classes held?Classes are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 2:30 p.m.

How much does it cost?  There is no cost for Fitness One members.  For non-members, the cost is $30 per month.

Family Swim & Raquetball

Family Swim & Raquetball

Parents are invited to bring their children (11 and under) to Fitness One for Family Swim and Family Racquetball.  The following rules must be followed:

  • Members may only bring their own children.  Children must be accompanied by a parent only, not an older sibling.

  • Parents must stay in the pool area or on the Racquetball Court with their children at all times.

  • Members do not have to have a Family Membership to come to Family Swim and Family Racquetball, but must have children listed on their contract for liability purposes.

  • Parents are responsible for the actions and supervision of their children.

  • Racquetball Courts must be reserved (you may reserve 24 hours in advance.)

            - Tennis shoes with non-marking soles must be worn
            - Eye guards are mandatory for parents and children. (Eye guards, racquets, and balls are available at the front desk.)
